Poetry/Spoken Word

“I’m fine.”

Inseparable, are these two words, it seems.
As a truthful response lays hidden in dreams.
Awakened by guilt’s quickening leer
piercing into our deepest fear.

But as a pair of songbirds prepare their verse.
They save the sun from midnight’s curse.
So until then, I close my eyes
to pray with hope to whom peace lies.

“Perhaps, these words may take effect?
Perhaps in time”, as I reflect –
waiting in an orderly line,
for when we can truly say, “I’m fine”.
